ABOUT THE SONGS:BodrumSea (Bodorumu no Umi) is my first solo guitar piece, based on a memory of Bodrum, a colorful town facing the lovely sea on the south shores of Turkey. The composition To Far-off Land (Kanata e) was inspired by a Native American legend of a mouse traveling to the edge of the world. The song, Now the Horizon Comes Into View (Shoshite Suiheisen), derives from my impression of the archeological remains uncovered in many places. Next, The Night (Jyakuya) was written for people who, during the night hours, mourn for the lost with a sorrow that seems able to crush them. Dialogue With The Night (Yoru to no Katarai) is a song of women who talk with the night and converse with themselves, while putting children to bed. La Casa (le) is about the still moments of home, enfolded by the warm visage of wordless, furniture, pots and pans, and food. Piececitos (Kanashimi) concerns the inscription in my own heart of the myriad sorrows of children. Primavera describes nymphs who have covered the floor with a carpet of flower patterns and spring grasses with a joyousness that knows not a hint of sorrow. All of the above pieces are dedicated to Kazuhito Yamashita, a person who has shown me the wonder of the guitar, a guitarist who has helped me to try and edit the pieces as if I myself played the guitar. There is a single exception to this dedication. The last piece, Sweet Tenderness (Amai Yasashisa), is dedicated to the many victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, which took place nearby in 1995. This composition features a very precious treasure (traditional children songs of Japan; songs which are deeply rooted in the hearts of the Japanese people. - Keiko Fujiie
